The Witcher series books 1-3
By Andrzej Sapkowski
★★★★☆ (4/5)I tried getting into this series a long time ago but I thought it was boring to read. Little did I know, that when I would pick up the book again, the difference was language.See, the first time I had this book in my hands, I though I should read it in English. This time, I picked it up in Finnish - and as an audio book. Not only was the audio book narrator a perfect match for this book (Aku Laitinen) but also the translation (by Tapani Kärkkäinen) gave the text a flavour that English rarely can. It now had undertones, emotions, and feelings that you felt between the lines and through careful choice of words.Unfortunately, I cannot read Polish, but I do believe Polish is also a very expressive language. You lose a lot of the flavour when translating a book from the original language to English.Well, I bought the whole first 7 books in Finnish so I can analyse them and underline them (yes, you heard me).
